Thegoalmac can reveal that Paris Saint-Germain need to add more top players to their squad and take some of the burden away from Zlatan Ibrahimovic if they are to win the Champions League, according to former midfielder Jay-Jay Okocha.
Okocha, who spent four years with PSG between 1998 and 2002, believes that Ibrahimovic alone cannot bring them European glory. Who disagrees or agrees with the legend Jay Jay? Read what he said after the cut.
“I think it’s clear that he’s their main man now and for that reason
they cannot be quite there yet, because you need at least three or four
outstanding players to be able to win the Champions League,” Okocha told repoters.
“If you are relying so much on one player you might go through a
spell where he might not be in good form or he might be injured, and
then you will suffer from that. So he might not be good enough alone to
win the Champions League for them.”
The ex-Nigeria international does believe, though, that the capital club can win the tournament in the near future.
“I think if you look at their team this year, they have definitely
improved from last year,” he added. “And I think they stand a good
chance of improving, so they will be up for it I think next season.”
Okocha starred for PSG at a time when targets were somewhat
different, but the 41-year-old accepts their transformation under the
Qatar Sports Investments group as being part of the modern game.
“I think it’s obviously the money being pumped into PSG that has made the difference since my time.
“It’s clear now that in football you need big investment in your
team, so them being able to buy any player is a key part of this
transformation. They can challenge anybody in the league.”
