Lionel Messi is set to miss Argentina's friendly against Germany after
suffering a groin strain in Barcelona's win over Villarreal on Sunday.Continues....
Messi, 27, pulled an abductor muscle in his right leg as Luis
Enrique's side secured their second Liga win of the season at the
Estadio El Madrigal, though he played the full 90 minutes for the Blaugrana.
The
Argentina captain is likely to be denied the chance to lead his side
out in a rematch against Joachim Low's World Cup winners on Wednesday,
who beat the Albiceleste 1-0 in the final back in July.
"Following
the 1-0 win at Villarreal, the Club Medical Services have released a
statement regarding the conditions of Leo Messi and Munir," Barcelona
confirmed on their official website. "The former has a groin strain (pulled adductor muscle), and precautionary measures will be required.
"Meanwhile,
Munir has bruising on his right thigh. Tests on Tuesday should be able
to determine the full extent of the injury. The Argentinian played all
ninety minutes of the win at El Madrigal, while Munir was on the field
for 59 of them."
Messi endured a difficult 2013-14 campaign as he struggled with numerous injuries as Barcelona failed to win a single trophy.
