Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says Fabian Delph was unable to fly with the rest of the squad to Vietnam thanks to his hamstring injury.
Delph was stretchered off just 18 minutes into his City debut, against Real Madrid at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, on Friday, and club doctors are waiting to discover the extent of the problem.
City left Australia for Hanoi earlier this weekend but Delph was not able to join the party, and instead will fly straight back to England.
“Fabian stayed in Australia as the doctor said it was not good for him to fly here," Pellegrini told a press conference on Sunday. "In the next 48 hours he will fly home."
City are in Hanoi to face the Vietnam national team on Monday, and Pellegrini says he will field as strong a line-up as possible.
"We are going to play the best team we can," he added. "We have problems with some of the players but we’ll see Raheem Sterling, Joe Hart and others."
"It’s an important game for us because we’re in pre-season and we’re very near to the start of the Premier League.
"We are very happy here in Vietnam – we only arrived yesterday but we had an unbelievable welcome at the airport."
