Ajax manager Frank de Boer believes the versatile Daley Blind wants to play as a central midfielder for Manchester United.
The Netherlands international joined United from Ajax for 14 million
pounds on transfer deadline day and is likely to make his debut against
Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.
Blind was an integral part of United manager Louis van Gaal's Netherlands team who came third in the World Cup.Continue...
But
he spent much of his time in Brazil playing as a left wing-back or a
left-sided centre-back and gives Van Gaal the option of deploying him in
any one of three positions for United.
And De Boer, who has led Ajax to four successive league titles, told ITV:
"He started as a full-back but I think now he prefers to be a
controlling midfielder. I think he'll have two or three options [at
United] -- either at wing-back or on the left in a central midfield
pairing.
"For Daley it's a great transfer. He's been playing for
Ajax since he was 10 years old, and now he can hopefully show his
qualities at United.
"He'll have to get used to the rhythm of the league first, but he's a really quick thinker and nowadays that's very important."
Blind
is one of four summer signings who could make their competitive debuts
for United against QPR along with Luke Shaw, who has been injured,
Marcos Rojo, who did not have a work permit, and Radamel Falcao, the
other deadline-day arrival.
